This house for the Jorejick family in Tanzania is a modern interpretation of the traditional hut as a response to the housing problems in sub-saharan Africa and to the climatic conditions that dictate how the house is integrated within the context.

The traditional sub-Saharan hut is an adobe or mud-block construction method which is characterized by very few window openings and minimal passive airflow. As result of these characteristics, humidity condenses within the building which increases the probability of contracting deseases spread by mosquitos. Aiming to find solutions, is not a matter of changing things completely, it is a matter of using the local available resources in an optimal way to improve airflow, shading and collect rainwater.
